artist statement

I am in love with color and light; translucence and layers; materials and textures; reflections, refractions, and sparkles. I was raised this way.

My artist mother taught me to see beauty — in sunsets and fabric stores, in carrot peelings in a stainless steel sink and gum polka dots on the sidewalk. My architect father taught me to see structural space, the integration of interior and exterior volumes, the qualities of light at different times of day, and diffusion.

As a professional graphic designer, I translate concepts into visual language, with thoughtful and deliberate use of color, both in print and on screens.

As an artist, I play with the intersections between all that I love: color, light, translucence, layers, material, textures, reflection, refraction, sparkle.

As a human – if not consciously, then certainly unconsciously – I infuse my work with meaning, telling myself and others an old story: how sweet it is to be alive; how sweet to experience this richness of color and love, knowing that life will one day end and savoring it with gratitude all the more.
